The heart of Mantua
We stayed in Ste. San Andrea, which is located in a separate building, some distance from the Casa Museo, in the heart of the historical center of Mantua. Although it was located in an old building, the apartment had all the modern conveniences. The staff could not have been nicer, and professor Rocca is a grand personality. It is in a perfect area to see the sites of Mantua. Mantua is a lovely city. Our only regret is that we only had one day to stay in the apartment. One small problem. In order to get to the apartment, you need a special card key that lowers a barricade in the road. Be sure to make arrangements to meet the host outside this area.

We were a family of 3 (travelling with our 25 year old daughter). The accommodations are very cleverly designed to be integrated into the rooms that are dedicated as the museum. The rest of the large, courtyard Palazzo includes some offices and apartments. The icing on the cake (literally) is the family group who operate this unique place. Our interaction was primarily with two people: the owner's lovely daughter, Marqaux (spelling?), who will delight you with her array of confections at breakfast (an excellent value for 10e per person if you have a sweet tooth)and Massimo, who was available all throughout our stay. He is a charming, bright young man who is dedicated to providing 5 star service. The location is just a few minutes walk from the main square and sites. There is not parking directly on site (it is a city location) but the hotel will send you all this information in detail. We stayed in the Cardinal suite. This was comprised of two sleeping areas that shared a very modern bathroom with all amenities. It was cleverly designed with a a clear ceiling so you can see the vaulted fresco ceiling as you enjoy a luxurious bath. My husband and I took the bedroom that is an intimate, beautiful baroque chapel. The main suite, which could be used as a private room for two without the adjacent chapel, included some extra space with a fireplace mantel, desk, TV, good wifi, coffee maker, mini-mini fridge and chair. There is definite attention to style, quality and cleanliness. We are all tall americans and were very comfortable with the space and bed sizes. Just don't be surprised if can hear people talking in the hallway that connects the two suites on this floor; we did not find this to be a problem (very quit at night). There is a fascinating vaulted brick suite of rooms (very dramatic with an interesting history) on the lower level, but be aware that windows are very limited. My 25 year old loved these lower level rooms.

An unforgettable experience in the charming historic residence of Valenti-Gonzaga, a few steps from the center of the beautiful city of Mantua. Words cannot explain the pleasure about living in a perfectly restored historic home, thanks to the careful and patient passion of Professor Linardi who, for more than twenty years, has dedicated himself to the research and to the important recovery of the lost history of the building and its owners. A big thank you to the fascinating Margaux and enterprising Massimo, the two young and smart managers of the palace. With their greedy pastry delicacies and particular descriptions of the works and frescoes in the rooms of the building, they have helped us to make our holiday unique and unforgettable in the history of the city of Mantua. The prices are absolutely ridiculous for the incredible location and the excellent treatment that has been observed by all the staff of the palace. Difficult to suggest you on which room, or better apartment, choose among the available ones. Rely on Massimo: I'm sure you will have no words about the surprising place. Breakfast in the palace is a must: you will enjoy the magnificent works of exquisite confectionery of Miss Margaux in the magnificent ambient of the Palazzo Valenti-Gonzaga. We will come back soon for another wonderful break in the history of Italy.
