This is an historic hotel that was first built as a royal residence for Franz Joseph and inaugurated in 1909. It's probably the oldest building in town. From outside it looks gorgeous and is perfectly positioned in the central square of Canazei, conveniently close to everything. Inside it's a little decadent, you might feel like you ended up in Grand Budapest Hotel. In terms of functionality is basic and old-style, very 1.0 (but there is free wifi for guests), and sometimes you might think that it doesn't deserve four stars. Our room was in a way very bad because the only window was very small, watching a very close wall (like 1 meter from the window) and positioned over the kitchen so we smelled whatever they were cooking. It felt sort of a dark jail. On the other hand it was nice because it was spacious, clean, completely covered with parquet and boiserie and equipped with a Jacuzzi. We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel every day and food was always excellent. At the table a very efficient waiter named Don made us feel at home and delivered superb service. People staying in the hotel are 90% mature couples, families with children or large groups of retired people. In this hotel teenagers might feel like a fish out of the bowl even if in the basement of the building there is "Kaiser Keller", probably the only venue in town that is opened until late night and sports a dance floor. There is private parking (price included) but is insufficient for everybody and it might happen you have to park outside. All in all I think for mature couples and families is not bad, just don't go there if you look for luxury, modern feeling, or nightlife.
