Vatican Suites Inn - Rome
Good3.0 / 5
Our stay at Vatican Suites Inn would have been a complete success but for the painful experience of being evicted from our studio in the middle of our stay. There was no mention of this in our contract. We had reserved a studio with a kitchenette from October 14 through October 20. We however obliged since could not argue in Italian (the person presenting the ultimatum, a housekeeper-assistant (?), spoke only Italian - the English-speaking manager never showed up in person.) The new space (a room and bathroom) turned out to be only about half in size of the studio (bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom) that we had so happily occupied previously. However, the biggest loss was not the space - but the kitchen, as I had chosen Vatican Suites Inn solely for being able to cook my meals, a necessity due to my dietary restrictions. Needless to say that the end of my stay was not pleasant or easy. Another oddity was the monetary transaction with Vatican Suites Inn; we were namely obliged to pay in cash and having to pay when checking in. First, carrying that much money around made me feel very unsafe. Moreover, having already paid our stay contributed to our vulnerability and reluctance to contest the eviction from the studio - we might have been evicted from the entire premises for refusing to be agreeable! Note that I had called Venere before my trip about the legality of this demand in cash(suspecting tax evasion), but all I got from Venere were reassurances that the practice was "common" and that I should not worry. If I do not hear a reaction from you to this sorry tale, do not expect me to do business with Venere ever again.
