We were travelling on a budget but were not wanting dormitory style so were Very Pleased with the accomodation at the Hotel Casanova. (Double room which included private shower/toilet). It was just as described by the proprietors so I've marked it according to what it purports to be - that is budget accomodation in the centre of Naples. Not the greatest area but very near the Central Railway Station which is ideal for those travelling on Eurail passes like us.

The hotel was fine if you are a budget traveller who just wants to get their head down. If you want a hotel to relax in, forget it. Its in a good location just around the corner from Piazza Garibaldi train station but its close to the red light district and I wouldn't recommend it for single or female couples or older people. When we arrived we were hardly given a rousing welcome when we arrived late at night, the guy on reception barely broke into a smile, couldn't speak a word of English and just about handed us the keys to the room. Customer Service doesnt appear to be on the agenda. The guys on reception desk during the day were more receptive and helpful compared to the unhappy guy in the evening. No breakfast available at the hotel and no rooftop terrace as advertised in the Rough Guide. On the Saturday night there was noise all night in the alleyway behind the hotel, scooters driving up and down, loud voices and breaking glass. We cancelled our reservation on the last night because we couldnt face staying there and decided to stay on in Sorrento an extra night.

It took me a long time to find a hotel in Naples that seemed like it would be clean and well located. This was a good compromise because it had clean rooms (which was my main priority), and was well located near the train station. The area seemed a little dodgy but since we were only staying there for 2 nights it wasnt a huge problem and we were travelling in a group. I would recommend it for anyone staying for a few nights and I was happy with the service. They cleaned the room regularly.

The main advantage of the hotel is the good price and the location within 5 minutes of the train station. However, the staff were a bit confused by giving me one room and then giving the same room to some other person. Finally they assigned the second person to another room. And in the morning I did not even appear booked in the room I was given. It made sense, since I was given a room with a double bed plus a single bed and I had only chosen and paid for a single bad. The staff did not speak English, only some basic words. The location near the Napoli train station is very dirty and full of poor people. However, the hotel was safe. I left the baggage with them all day while I visited the town and it was OK.

The hotel is in a run down area and as a lone traveller I was a bit anxious finding it. It was classed as a budget hotel and was good enough but although the area quietened down after midnight, I couldn't sleep because of banging doors, people arguing and the door bell ringing. It's near the Alibus and station which was why I chose it but is not a hotel for an enjoyable stay
