What's Budapest like?

When you arrive, a trip to the parliament building is a must, since the Hungarian National Parliament building is the largest in Europe. Be sure to visit the Royal Palace, an impressive structure steeped in fascinating history. It has been destroyed and rebuilt 6 times! Art lovers will be in their element whilst visiting the National Gallery, housed within the Royal Palace itself – another reason to visit! Looking to relax on a sunny afternoon around some natural beauty? Take the bridge over to Margaret Island, a 2.5km long island in the middle of the Danube River, and the middle of Budapest, and a beautiful collection of landscape parks. Speaking of the Danube River, a stay in Budapest wouldn’t be complete without a boat trip of the gorgeous river. Though glorious in the daytime, we at Venere recommend a night time trip for an extra unforgettable experience. For some authentic evening fun, we recommend a trip to a FONO Music House, which offers concerts, traditional folkdance, and every Wednesday you can see how young Hungarians are continuing their proud traditions. One thing Budapest is very famous for is its thermal baths, which thrive because of Budapest’s unique location, and also because of its historical Turkish influence. So take a soak and let your worries float away. As you can see, you will not be short of things to do in Budapest while staying in one of the incredible Budapest hotels.

Tips for Getting Along with Locals in Budapest

It shouldn’t be too difficult to get along with the locals in Budapest, but there are some things that are helpful to know before departing. Originally two separate cities, “Buda” and “Pest,” it is still common to say that something is “in Buda”, or that you are “in Pest.” Impress the locals with your geographic knowledge! When visiting the thermal baths, note that most baths are mixed gender, and people wear normal swimming attire, but that at certain baths, or at certain times, people bathe nude. It pays to know which one you’re at! And whilst sampling the delicious food on offer at the restaurants in Budapest, we recommend staying away from the heavily touristic areas, such as Vaci utca, because tourists can often targets for scams. Go instead to an area like Raday utca, which also has plenty to offer. A stay in one of the many Budapest hotels should be a wonderfully safe one, but we do recommend being aware of your belongings in the busy tourist areas, like in any major European city, and only use official taxis.
