La Ciotat Hotels
La Ciotat is a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department of southern France. La Ciotat, meaning "the city" is part of the metropolitan area of Marseille, and was also the location of one of the first motion picture films, "L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat", which was filmed in 1895. Much of the area paints an idyllic image straight out of a post card, as La Ciotat is situated along the Mediterranean and the area surrounding the commune is packed with beaches, bushy hillsides, and stunning Mediterranean inspired architecture. Finding your ideal hotel in La Ciotat can be a daunting, if not stressful task. With Venere, you can rest assured that you know exactly what you are getting thanks to thousands of reviews from past hotel guests, photo galleries of hotel rooms, and a location from Google maps so that you can enjoy a virtual tour of the area.
What's La Ciotat Like?
La Ciotat is a town which has many of the attractions of a tourist destination, except without the tourists. Only recently has the town began to reap the benefits of its tourism industry, so you still have plenty of time to enjoy the sights and sounds in relative peace. There are many historical attractions in and around the town, such as the rock hewn Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Garde (Chapel of Our Lady of the Guard), Musee Ciotaden (Ciotaden Museum) with its artifacts chronicling the local history of the area, and recently restored 17th century Chapelle des Penitents Bleus (Chapel of the Penitents Bleus). There is also plenty for adventurous sightseers, as the rugged terrain around the town is ideal for a long afternoon of hiking, hill walking, and guided bike tours.
