What's Mystic like?
They say the name “Mystic” comes from the Native American Pequot term “missi-tuk”, meaning a large river that turned into large waves due to strong tide and winds. Today, Mystic is a relatively calm seaside destination—not the likely place for a tempest! Mystic is a part of the charming towns of Groton and Stonington, located East and West of the Mystic River, respectively. A popular destination year round, Mystic seems to draw people of all walks of life looking for water sports and sailing adventures and a taste of maritime tourism. Mystic has been featured in big Hollywood productions, as well as low budget movies, such as the 1988 film Mystic Pizza and Hans Hartman’s Crippled Creek, and you can even visit some of the filming sites today. Home of America’s oldest merchant vessel and leading maritime museum, a visit to these sights is worth your time. The hospitality industry has developed quite rapidly and you will have no trouble finding one of the many Mystic hotels to suit you.
